September is nationally recognized as suicide prevention month. During the month, a week is also dedicated to bringing awareness to an issue that has taken more than 41,000 lives. This year, it will begin 9/10 through 9/16. An excerpt from NAMI.org:

“Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues.”

I encourage you to visit www.nami.org for additional information and resources regarding suicide. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, please seek help immediately. You are not alone and your live DOES matter. Your life IS worth saving.
